Do you have Instant/Real Time Alerts?

A Real Time Alert (RTA) is a report about a specific Speeding Incident by a single vehicle. Alerts are delivered by email to one or more recipients whenever a vehicle exceeds the custom or posted legal speed limit.

If they are supported by your GPS tracking provider, Real Time Alerts can be activated for your account upon request. Please check with your GPS provider for availability and pricing details.

To see if they are already set up, click on Report Settings for any vehicle group on Dashboard: Your Vehicle Groups. If the Alert Settings tab is available (not the Settings tab), then Real Time Alerts are already enabled for your account.

To configure your Alerts:

  1. From Dashboard: Your Vehicle Groups, click on the name of the group that you wish to edit.

  2. This will take you to the group's Report Archive page. Click the Manage Group Report Settings link in the "Useful Settings and Tools" box:

  3. Find the Alert Settings tab to configure the Alert preferences. If you do not see an Alert Settings tab, then Real Time Alerts have not been enabled on your account. Please contact your GPS provider if you wish to receive alerts.
  4. Start typing the email address for the recipient you wish to add in the Incident Alert Emails box. If the recipient already exists on your account, you will be prompted to add that user. If the address is not already in our system, click "Add Recipient" to create a new recipient.

    1. If you are adding a new recipient, you will be prompted to enter the recipient's first and last name - please enter the recipient's name and click Submit to save

    2. You will now see the recipient's address in the Incident Alert Emails box:

  5. Set the incident alert speeding thresholds for each vehicle type (because many managers only want RTAs for the most severe Speeding Incidents, alerts can be configured with different Speeding Thresholds than standard scheduled reports)
  6. Set the Minimum Time Between Incident Alerts - this allows you to block repeated alerts for a sustained speeding event - for example, if this field set to 15 minutes and a vehicle generates an Alert at 4:02 pm it will not generate another Alert if it is speeding again at 4:14 pm
  7. Click Apply Changes to save

RTAs respect all existing Custom and Geofence speed limits in place for your fleet, so you retain the benefit of these special limits when using RTAs.

Please note: Your GPS provider sets an alert latency threshold (usually 60 minutes). If SpeedGauge receives the vehicle observation data for an incident after this period due to a GPS issue, no Alert will be sent. This is done to prevent users from receiving late alerts when a vehicle is out of range or is otherwise unable to transmit data in a timely manner.

Please note: The settings for Units for Fleet Speeds, Time Zone, and Allow Signature Block on Maps under the vehicle group’s general Settings tab will be carried over and applied to the Alert Settings as well.
